So Thursday morning I woke to a gentle covering of snow, the fields and roads around my house had all been turned white… and as the day unfolded more snow drifted gently down…. there wasn’t a breath of wind… and the snow lay where it settled.
Friday, I awoke to a winter wonderland… the little snow that has fallen the previous day had been covered with 7 inches of fresh powder snow overnight… the bird table had a dome of snow, covering the food… snow lay on the telegraph cables, on the roads, everywhere…
I was meant to be driving to Portsmouth, on the South Coast, for a friend’s wedding. It was going to be a big Navy affair, and I had been looking forward for weeks… but with my van 150 yards from the road, and those 150 yards been under a foot of snow, the chances of getting to the road where slim… and even once I had got to the road, I had 3 miles of narrow country lane covered in a foot of snow, before I would even get to the main road… I reluctantly picked up the phone and called my friends.
Throughout the day the snow continued to fall… November snow, normally lasts a few hours, if it comes at all… but here it was with a vengeance! I continued to work, building the interior of my van, as I doubted it would last the weekend out, and I had a trip to the Lakes planed for the Monday….
