2015 was an amazing year filled with adventures ranging from the Himalayas of Nepal and an earthquake, to a honeymoon on the islands of the west coast of Scotland. So determined to get 2016 of to an even better start and with Katie working all night in A&E, I found a high vantage point with Gru, to watch the northern lights, as they danced through the sky, whilst the bells chimed in the New Year. As we walked home, a flurry of snow started to settle, turning the ground white under a rising moon, it couldn’t have been better (with the exception of Katie not working).
Waking to a cold, snow-covered morning, frost hoar covered the trees and there was no chance the sun would make an appearance, to mark the 1st of January and the new year. So walking past a small half frozen loch, Gru and myself asked what better way to mark the new year than a wild swim.
With the light rapidly failing and only the simple iPhone to record our daring do, Gru sampled the water to make sure it was nice and cold, I soon followed keen to flush out the old year and to set the precedent for a new year of adventures… A year dedicated to adventures closer to home, wild swimming and getting outside more.
So as we plan to make use of the opportunities that surround us closer to home and get outside more during 2016, what are your plans for the new year…? Let us know in the comments below, and most importantly… Happy New Year…
